Empowering the next generation of Engineers: our Greenpower Race journey

As part of our core STEM commitment under the programme grant, our team had the privilege of supporting three local schools through the thrilling journey of building and racing their own electric cars. While we provided the mentorship, the real victory belongs to the student teams, who gained invaluable skills that extend far beyond the racetrack.
Key benefits for the student teams:
    • Hands-on engineering experience: Students transformed abstract classroom concepts into tangible mechanical reality, learning how to use tools, assemble chassis, and wire electric drivetrains safely.
    • Collaboration & leadership: Building a race car is the ultimate team exercise. Students self-organized into vital roles—from mechanics and logistics managers to strategy planners and drivers. [1]
    • Resilience & problem-solving: When parts didn’t align or electrical connections failed, the teams learned to troubleshoot, iterate, and overcome technical hurdles under pressure.
    • Inclusion & confidence: The multi-faceted nature of the project ensured that every child—regardless of their academic background—found a place to shine, significantly boosting their self-esteem and confidence in STEM subjects.

The ultimate reward: Race day on June 4th

The entire building phase culminated in an unforgettable experience at the Formula Goblins Race on June 4th. Stepping onto a real track, the young engineers saw their months of dedication, teamwork, and hard work come to life on the starting grid.
Competing against other schools provided a profound sense of community, healthy competition, and achievement. They didn’t just drive a car they built themselves; they proved to themselves exactly what they are capable of achieving.
