Outreach & STEM activities
Outreach and STEM engagement are a core part of our programme, helping to inspire and equip the next generation of engineers and innovators. By connecting with schools, communities and the wider public, we aim to spark curiosity and build a deeper understanding of sustainable electrification and the technologies shaping our energy future.
Our outreach is just getting started. We recently took part in the IET Greenpower Goblins category, giving young people a hands-on taste of engineering in action. Over the coming years we plan to grow this work, by attending science festivals and events across our partners’ regions and nationally, and reaching students from all backgrounds.
Building on the outreach experience within our team, we are planning to engage students each year, showing how engineering tackles real-world problems and who gets to be part of it. With teams at Nottingham, Bristol and Newcastle, each partner draws on its own expertise and local connections to deliver activities that are varied and distinctive.
This matters beyond inspiration. The UK faces a significant skills shortage in power electronics, machines and drives, the very field our research advances. By widening participation and championing diversity in engineering, we aim to help build a more representative profession and a stronger pipeline of talent for the years ahead.
Are you a school, teacher or event organiser interested in working with us? We’d love to hear from you as our outreach programme grows. Get in touch to register your interest.
